Evans
March 22, 1940 – April 11, 2022
William Karl Evans was born on March 22, 1940 in Warwick, Georgia to the late Julia Perry Evans and the late Wilburn Evans, Sr. He started his education at Ft. Early Elementary School in Warwick, Georgia. After the family moved to Albany, he continued his education at Madison Elementary School, Carver Junior High, and Monroe High School, all located in Dougherty County. Following graduation from Monroe High in 1958, he matriculated at Albany State College until graduation in 1966.
William Evans was a dedicated educator with a passion for mathematics and science. He was first employed by the Calhoun County Board of Education as an Algebra and Geometry teacher at H.T. Singleton High School in Morgan, Georgia. In 1968, he and his family moved to the Brunswick, Georgia area, where he continued to teach mathematics at Risley High School. He later transferred to Brunswick High until his retirement in 1996. While working as an educator in Glynn County, William also worked part time as a sales associate for Sears & Roebuck for over fourteen years. During his years of employment, he received many awards and acknowledgements for excellence in customer service.
After his retirement from the public school system, William continued to further his education by completing a long-time goal of studying electronics. He successfully graduated from Altamaha Technical Institute in Jesup, GA with a diploma in Electronic Fundamentals in 2000.
William Evans was baptized in the Episcopal church as a young adult. He was a faithful member of St. Athanasius Episcopal Church, Brunswick, Georgia for over 40 years. He served on various committees within the church, and as a Vestryman for many years. Additionally, he was a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Tau Chapter of Brunswick, Georgia since 1973.
William transitioned to be with the Lord on the morning of April 11, 2022. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by: a son, the late Derrick Evans; brother Wilburn Evans, Jr.; sister Estella Davis; and sister Georgie Sutton (Samuel deceased).
He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter Vanessa Evans Jones (Steven) of Richmond Hill, GA; grandchildren Steven Jones, Jr, Marcus Jones, and Brandon Jones of Richmond Hill, GA; his sisters Julia Andrews (Goliath deceased) of Albany, GA; Dr. Maryanne Jones (William deceased) of Philadelphia, PA; Lillian Chatmon of Albany, GA; a sister-in-law Loretta Evans of Cherry Hill, NJ; a God son Michael Rogers (Christine) of Brunswick, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
