William Luther Sears was born in Wetumpka, Alabama on February 27, 1949. He was the beloved son of the late Clarence and Emma Sears.

During the early years of his life, he attended school in the Wetumpka School District. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio with his family, he completed his education in the Cleveland Municipal School District.

William enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with distinction. During his enlistment, he was stationed throughout the United States and abroad, and received numerous commendations as he advanced in the military ranks. At the close of his tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge.

During his travels across the country, William met the love of his life, Veverly Anderson. They were married on December 6, 1983, and, thereafter, settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Their union stood the test of time and was blessed with a loving family. William was a devoted husband and father who worked untiringly to care for the needs of his family. He was employed with the Veterans Administration in Ohio for numerous years and prided himself in a "job well done."

"Sears" as he was affectionately called, was a very unique man who was full of life, kind and compassionate, patient and loving, generous and giving. He believed strongly in family ties and responsibilities and he savored the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a people's person who greatly impacted his surroundings and touched the lives of everyone around him. His enthusiasm and exuberance were contagious—he was truly unforgettable.

On February 7, 2019, Sears peacefully transitioned to eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Veverly; and two brothers, Augusta "Gus" and Clarence Jr.

He leaves to celebrate the wonderful memories of his life five children, Erica, Ashley (Marcus), T'Keyah, Andre (Brittney), William Jr., Luke (Girl), and Velton (Kerisha); four siblings, Barbara, Clarice, Darryl, and Folsom; devoted grandchildren, Zy'Teasia, Kyandrea, Lametrious, Marco, Caprice, Za'Kiyah, Ava, Raymond, DeAnna, Mar'Kayla, Zeriel, De'Mya, Andre Jr., and Daven and D'Monta whom he nurtured and played a special role in their upbringing; several sisters– and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
