Obituary

Willie Mae Hayes Blount, daughter of the late Eva Mae Hall Sheppard and Jessie King Britten, was born in Lee County, Georgia on June 5, 1938.

She was educated in the public schools of Lee and Dougherty Counties where she participated in various school functions.

Throughout her childhood, Willie Mae was nurtured in the word of God. At a very early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and began her Christian walk with the Lord at the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Lee County. Over the years, she was steadfast in her faith and service. She was a faithful member of the choir and served many years as Advisor for the Youth Department. Willie Mae was a prayerful warrior whose faith in God never wavered and who loved her church dearly.

She was united in holy matrimony to her beloved Walter Blount—a union that stood the test of time and endured through the years. As a wife and mother, she ate not the bread of idleness and was diligent in caring for the needs of her family. She was employed by the Dougherty County School System where she labored untiringly in the Child Nutrition Department, and retired after rendering 42 years of dedicated service.

Willie Mae was a very kind and gentle-hearted person who embraced life's experiences with open arms. She considered her family and friends to be among her most prized blessings, and delighted in bringing them together for various gatherings and functions. She was known for her traveling spirit, her love for all mankind, and her favorite sayings "let's go and love ya later." Her engaging personality captured the hearts of all who knew her.

On Friday, August 11, 2017, Willie Mae answered her final call and quietly entered into eternal rest.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Blount.

Fond memories will forever be cherished by her children, Margaret (Victor) Haskins and Leola (Donald) Patterson of Jacksonville, FL, Gwendolyn (Kevin Gaines and Elbert (Sheila) Blount of Sumner, GA, and Jonathan Eric (Joslin) Blount and Monique Blount; twenty-one grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; six siblings, Ruby (Reverend Booker T.) Batten, Yolanda (Eddie) Rollins, Charles (Joann) Britten, Allen (Hilda) Shine, Masco (Dartagnan Dumas) Finney, and Edwin Reeves; one uncle, Floziel Hall; a sister-in-law, Ethel High, two brothers-in-law, Johnny Blount and Edward Blount; a lifelong friend, Queen Lofton Sholar of Arlington, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will truly miss her.
