Obituary

Willie Frank Keith was born in Leesburg, Georgia on August 9, 1949. He was the son of the late O. B. and Susie Lee Keith.
He was educated in the Lee County School System. Throughout school, he was a lively, strong-willed young man; was actively involved in various student activities and events; and was always ready for adventure.

At a very young age, Willie heeded the call of Christ; was baptized; and received the right hand of fellowship into the body of Christ at McAfee Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He dearly loved the Lord and remained steadfast in service, prayerful, and humble in his daily walk.

A military enthusiast, Willie served in the United States Army where he demonstrated bravery and commitment to his country. His service in Vietnam significantly exemplified his patriotism and courage. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and numerous other service medals and commendations. At the close of his tours of duty, he was honorably discharged; returned home to civilian life; and began the next chapter in his professional career. Highly skilled and multi-talented, Willie's work experiences included employment with the City of Albany Fire Department and the Marine Corps Logistics Base. He also worked as a truck driver, school bus driver, prison guard, and an umpire. No matter what the job title, position, or task, Willie worked hard to maintain his standards of excellence and exceptional work performance.

Willie was not only a hard worker and a brave and loyal soldier, but a patient and loving husband as well. In 2006, he was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Whitsett. His love for his wife was unmatched—she was the sparkle in his eyes, the beat in his heart, and the air that he breathed. Their personalities PRECIOUS MEMORIES perfectly complemented each other. As a husband and father, Willie had an immense passion for his family and brought the perfect balance in their lives. He showered them with unconditional love and supported them in all their endeavors.

Simply a true joy to everyone around him, Willie had a fierce love for his family and friends. His contagious smile and happy demeanor could light up a room and there was never a dull moment when in his presence. He was a strong man—not only physically, but built of character and personal conviction. Known as a kind, fun-loving, caring, and upbeat individual, Willie enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, ballroom dancing, playing dominos, checkers, hanging out with friends, and savoring time spent with family. He had a big heart and gave of himself freely with no regrets.

On February 7, 2024, Willie peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Stacy Zackery and Dexter Zackery; and five siblings.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Barbara Whitsett Keith of Albany, GA; his children, Conneal (Glynn) Wright, Sheldon Keith, Kalynn Zackery, Andrian Zackery, and Terron (Connie) Hayes all of Albany, GA; siblings, Bobby (Patricia) Keith, Jessie Keith, Carolyn Jefferson, and Angela (Willie) Young all of Albany, GA, Amos (Ann) Keith and John (Freda) Keith of Austin, TX, and Albertha Keith and Virginia (Douglas) Raikers both of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and two very special buddies, Reverend Phillip Bannaman and Roger Seay.
