IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Willie Perry
Nelson, Jr.
March 24, 1988 – August 16, 2020
On March 24, 1988, a beautiful baby boy, Willie Perry Nelson, Jr., was born to Lynn Lofton and Willie Perry Nelson, Sr. in Albany, Georgia. Perry, known as "P" to his friends, received his education in the Dougherty County School System and graduated from Westover High School. Although he was less than 6 feet tall, his agility, skills, and love of basketball elevated him to the position of starting point guard for the Westover Patriots. Perry was a member of the Oakridge Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. Upon graduating, he received a scholarship to Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida, where he continued his education and his love for basketball.
"P" was a soft spoken, easy going child who grew into a man of the same demeanor and character. He later moved to Atlanta to be closer to his mother, brother, and childhood friend, Jeremee Davis. Part of his short journey in life would consist of an inseparable bond of friendship with Jeremee. They began their almost "joined at the hip" friendship 22 years ago at Henderson Gym. From college to college, team to team, and city to city, they tarried together. They knew each other's weaknesses, but reinforced their strengths. They even recognized their inabilities, but they always encouraged each other's possibilities. Through it all, they shared joy and sadness, defeat and victories, disagreements and make-ups, but most of all they shared a lifetime of love.
While to Perry's family and friends, his life was cut too short, God already knew when he would call him home. He took a mortal body and clothed it in immortality. The Savior whispered to Perry on August 16, 2020, "Don't be afraid; only the shadow of death can touch you, for I am with you." Perry's life was guided by a loving mother: Lynn Lofton Gibson (Anthony) of Stockbridge, GA; a son and daughter: Ahmari Williams and Jozi Nelson both of Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Raashon Jones, Atlanta, GA and Mychael Lofton who preceded him in death; a grandmother and grandfather: Mrs. Ethel Lofton, Albany, GA and William Wesley Lofton Sr who preceded him in death; an aunt: Pamela Lofton-McGeorge (Grant) of Hartford, CT; three uncles: Jimmy Lewis (Eula) and William Lofton, Jr. of Albany, GA, and John Lofton (Nandi) of Snellville, GA; one nephew: Landon Jones of Danbury, CT; a very special cousin: Latasha Cook, Albany, GA; a best friend: Jeremee "JP" Davis of Atlanta, GA; a god-father and god-mother: L.D. and Joyce Davis of Albany, GA, plus a countless number of cousins, relatives and friends. Perry lived each day to the fullest. He enjoyed the life that God blessed him with. "P" would softly tell his family and friends, "All deaths are sudden, no matter how gradual the dying may be, but death can never kill love. It is eternal."
