Obituary

Wilmon Davis was born in Leary, Georgia on June 25, 1939, to the late Willie and Rosa Lee Davis.

He was educated in the public schools of Calhoun County. Very early in life, "Pie Joe" as he was fondly called, developed a passion for cars and anything with a motor.  Although he did not pursue formal training in that area, through God's divine blessing he mastered the skills necessary to become an A-1 mechanic.  He knew the meaning of hard work and perseverance—there wasn't anything that he couldn't do or wouldn't try.

"Pie Joe" began his Christian journey very early in life.  Upon the confession of his faith in Christ Jesus, he was baptized and united with the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Leary, Georgia.  He was a faithful member whose presence not only was seen, but his voice was heard as he sang in the choir.

In 1959, he was united in holy matrimony to Birdie King.  Their union endured through the years and was blessed with seven children.  As a husband, father, and grandfather, he held fast to his belief that work is honorable and devoted much of his time and energy to his employment as a farmer with Harvey Jordan/Robert McClendon Farms.  He was a dedicated employee who labored untiringly, prided himself in a job well done, and retired after more than 60 years of loyal service.

Family and friends meant the world to Wilmon and he delighted in spending quality time with them.  He was a kind, generous man who greeted each day with a smile and touched the lives of many with his kind words and deeds.  You couldn't know him without being inspired by his love and devotion to his family, friends, church, and community.

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, Wilmon departed this earthly life at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Sheila Marshall and Raymond Marshall.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Leonard (Sandra) Davis of Suffolk, VA, Clementine (Elester) Shedrick of Edison, GA, Rochester Davis of Munich, Germany, Cynthia (Johnnie) Stephens of Leary, GA, Desmond (Monique) Davis, Sr. and Marilyn Findley of Albany, GA, Sandra (Eddie) Smith of Augusta, GA, and Homer (Adrienne) Cox of Philadelphia, PA; two siblings, Walt (Mellean) Davis of Sasser, GA and Annie Clark of Albany, GA; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, close friends; and co-workers. He will truly be missed. To God be the glory for His marvelous work.
